Fabricio Werdum to appeal UFC 213 decision loss to Alistair Overeem

Fabricio Werdum to appeal UFC 213 decision: We all saw it go down. It looked pretty evenly matched until the very end when Werdum clocked Overeem with that nasty knee. He ended the third round with some ground and pound, and it all seemed to be lost for Overeem. How surprised were all of us Mata Leao people at Blitz when we saw that this was not the case. It was just as surprising for Werdum:

“When I lose a fight I admit it, but this one… The crowd booed him, I received a lot of messages. Everyone saw I won. You saw my face after the fight, I couldn’t believe I lost. I was surprised.”

Can you believe those flying knees at the opening for the first and second rounds? It was pretty outrageous and it seemed like Werdum was clearly the more dominant fighter.

Alistair took to Twitter to brag about his most recent and very controversial victory:

” My fight reminds me of a quote I heard: “it doesn’t matter if it’s a inch or mile; winning is winning 🇳🇱!! #ufc213

-Alistair Overeem, Via Twitter

I have to weigh in on this controversy, as it’s my sworn duty and also my job. I’m glad Overeem won, because I had 20 dollars riding on it. But also I have to say that I think Werdum TECHNICALLY ACTUALLY WON. And I’m actually a big fan of Overeem ever since he started hanging out with Dutch Madman Wim Hof. I actually wrote a blog on that and you can check it out here.

I think that the only possible ways that the Judges were weighing in for this decision was if they simply went on the total strikes. But that doesn’t even really make sense, either, does it? I mean it was a very closely scored card. I just think it was a draw AT BEST. But beating someone’s ass and almost knocking them out should count for something, especially if you are grounding and pounding them as the rounds draw to a close. It really looked like a clear Werdum victory. It also looked like the Ref’s missed a great fight.
